洲本市地域おこし協力隊　ハンコックス　サリーです。

昨年11月から活動をしていますが、改めましてよろしくお願いします。

たくさんやりたいことがあります。色々やってるので今から紹介します。

 

今は外国人が観光客として外国から来られないですが、2.82million (282万人）が日本にすでに住んでいます！今年は、その外国人を淡路島に呼びたい、そして将来的には洲本市を広く知らしめたい。

海、山、田んぼなどの自然に囲まれた平和なまちは、都会で住んでいる人にとって本当に魅力的です。洲本市の食べ物が全部ここで育っているのはすごいと思います。美味しくて新鮮な食べ物が洲本にあるのを皆に教えたい。

 

バイリンガルな洲本を考えると、子供向きのお話会を図書館でやりたいと思っています。コロナ感染拡大のために延期しましたが、秋には始められるかもしれないのでfbや図書館でチェックしてください。

 

たくさんの人を集めるイベントは今は難しいと思いますが、ちょっとずつ藍染め工房で地元の人や島外の人に藍染めを体験してみてほしい。

 

今までは藍染めの材料（発酵した葉は「すくも」と言います）は徳島や北海道から買っていましたが、来年からは自分で作ってみたい。すぐには上手にできないと思うのでがんばります！実現して商品も体験もまるごと洲本市産になったらいいな。

 

また、時期を見て、工房で講師を招いてワークショップを開催したい。テーマはエコや環境にやさしいこと、アート、ファションについてなど。

 

最後に、私は壁画制作も好きなので、機会があれば町おこしにつながる壁画も描きたいです。

【Goals and ideas】

   I have lots of ideas at the moment. If you have a question or idea please leave a comment!

 

Non-Japanese people can’t really visit Japan as tourists at the moment, however, 2.82million foreign nationals are already living here. This year I will try to invite them to Awaji Island. I can also work to promote Sumoto for the future long-term.

 

I think the peaceful nature of the seaside, mountains, rice fields, and the little town centres and villages are all really appealing for people living in cities in Japan.

 

The fresh and local delicious produce is also a great point. Getting seafood directly from the oceans and rice and vegetables from the fields in front of you is really appealing.

 

As I want to help the future generations of Sumoto be open to foriegn tourism, and to help them become global citizens, I’m organising some English language story-telling for local children at the library. It has been postponed because of Covid-19 but hopefully I can start in the Autumn. Please check back here or at the library for more information.

 

Unfortunately, at the moment, its not wise to create events that bring a lot of different people together as I’d hoped to do. Consequently, at my studio we are just going a little bit at a time, introducing tourists and local people to natural indigo with small shibori and dyeing workshops.

 

Currently we are using fermented indigo leaf compost (sukumo) from Tokushima and Hokkaido. From next year we are looking into growing and fermenting our own. It’s a hard and difficult process so wish us luck! It would be great if we can succeed because then our products will be truly ‘local’.

 

I’m hoping to invite other teachers or specialists to run workshops in my studio, when the time is right. I’m thinking along the themes of art, ethical fashion or the environment.

 

Finally, I’m also interested in painting murals, like on the side of my studio. If the opportunity arises I would love to paint some more cheerful pictures around town.
